Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybercab has been spotted at both the company’s Fremont test track in California and at the Giga Texas crash test facility, signaling that the next-generation autonomous vehicle is inching closer to production readiness.
Drone footage captured the first public sighting of the Tesla Cybercab at the Fremont factory’s outdoor test area, showcasing the compact, futuristic vehicle in motion. The vehicle was also seen at the factory’s crash testing site in Texas, according to longtime Giga Texas watcher Joe Tegtmeyer.
Tegtmeyer noted that the Cybercab’s presence in Texas likely indicates the final phase of pre-production validation, with initial test runs of the production version expected in the coming months. This aligns with Tesla’s previous approach with the Cybertruck, suggesting that the Cybercab is nearing completion.
Designed specifically for Tesla’s Robotaxi network, the Cybercab is a two-seat, all-electric autonomous vehicle featuring upward-swinging scissor-style doors, minimalist styling, and a purpose-built cabin optimized for shared use. Tesla plans to allow owners to add their vehicles to the network to scale the ride-hailing service rapidly.
This development follows Tesla securing a new patent for its “Unboxed” manufacturing process, which will be utilized in building the Cybercab. The process aims to produce vehicles in modular sections assembled by robotic assembly, enhancing factory efficiency and reducing production costs.
Recent drone footage from Giga Texas has shown Cybercab production equipment arriving at the facility, with the vehicle making a cameo in a Tesla promotional video, hinting at its near-final design. As the Cybercab undergoes testing at both Fremont and Giga Texas, it appears that Tesla is nearing a significant milestone in its Robotaxi ambitions.
The integration of the Cybercab into Tesla’s lineup represents a significant advancement in the company’s push towards autonomous driving technology and a shared mobility future. Stay tuned for more updates as Tesla continues to progress towards the production of the Cybercab.
