Tesla is gearing up to start production of the new Model Y, also known as “Juniper” or “Opal,” at Giga Berlin very soon. This comes just days after the electric car company launched the updated model in China last week.
Last Thursday, Tesla officially unveiled the latest version of the all-electric crossover Model Y in China, putting an end to weeks of speculation about a potential new model. The vehicle was made available for purchase on Tesla’s website, with two configurations being introduced in China and other neighboring markets like Australia: a Rear-Wheel-Drive and an All-Wheel Drive. Additionally, Tesla rolled out a special “Launch Edition” of the Model Y, featuring exclusive materials and badges.
The new Model Y also boasts several enhanced features, some of which are aimed at improving the Full Self-Driving suite. With the success of the Model Y in China, Tesla is now looking to expand production of the updated model to other markets and factories. Reports from German media suggest that employees at Gigafactory Berlin have been informed by management that production of the refreshed Model Y will commence as early as Tuesday.
This development could have significant implications for Tesla, as the Model Y was already the best-selling vehicle in Germany in 2024, with nearly 30,000 units sold in the country. It was also the top-selling vehicle in Europe last year, with over 150,000 units sold across the EU. Tesla’s dominance in the electric vehicle market in Europe was evident, with the Model 3 coming in second place.
The introduction of the new design could potentially entice current Model Y owners to upgrade to the latest version, leading to a surge in repeat sales for Tesla. This could help the company achieve its goal of surpassing two million deliveries this year.
As Tesla gears up for the production of the new Model Y at Gigafactory Berlin, the anticipation among fans and investors is palpable. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability continues to drive its success in the electric vehicle market, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.
