SpaceX Set to Expand Bastrop Facility with $8 Million Investment
SpaceX is gearing up for another round of growth in Central Texas, as the company plans to launch an $8 million expansion at its Bastrop site later this month. The expansion project, set to begin on September 24, will see the addition of 80,000 square feet of new office space to the facility, with construction expected to be completed by early January 2026. The Bastrop site, located along FM 1209 just outside of Austin, is in close proximity to the Boring Company’s operations and Elon Musk’s X headquarters at Hyperloop Plaza.
This latest expansion is part of a series of growth initiatives for SpaceX in Bastrop. Just last year, the company invested $8 million to enlarge one of its buildings in order to ramp up production of its Starlink satellite internet service. The move proved prescient, as Starlink recently surpassed 7 million users across 150 countries and territories, highlighting the service’s rapid global expansion.
In addition to the $8 million expansion project, SpaceX is also set to benefit from a $17.3 million grant awarded earlier this year by the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund. This funding will support the company’s semiconductor research and advanced packaging facility in Bastrop, which is slated to expand by 1 million square feet over the next three years. The state projects that this investment will create over 400 new jobs and stimulate more than $280 million in capital commitments.
The announcement of SpaceX’s Bastrop expansion comes on the heels of a major $17 billion spectrum deal with EchoStar, aimed at enhancing Starlink’s wireless capabilities. These strategic moves underscore SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to scale its infrastructure and broadband footprint at a rapid pace.
With strong state support and significant private investment, Bastrop is poised to emerge as a key hub for SpaceX’s Starlink operations, advanced manufacturing, and the broader Musk business ecosystem in the years ahead.
By leveraging these investments and partnerships, SpaceX is positioning itself for continued growth and innovation in the evolving space and telecommunications industries. Watch this space for more updates on SpaceX’s expansion plans and technological advancements.
