Kia Unveils Concept EV2: A Glimpse into the Future of Electric Vehicles
Kia recently showcased the Concept EV2 at their EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain, giving a sneak peek into an upcoming electric subcompact crossover set to hit the market in 2026. The boxy design of the EV2 has drawn comparisons to the Kia Soul EV, hinting at a potential successor to the popular model that was previously sold in limited numbers in the U.S.

The EV2 boasts a length of 169.3 inches, making it slightly longer than the current gasoline-powered Kia Soul. This places it in a size category similar to the Kia EV3 electric crossover, with dimensions that fall between the Hyundai Kona Electric and Volvo EX30. The vehicle features innovative elements like suicide doors and a flat floor, while also incorporating practical features such as a wide-opening tailgate and a pop-up cargo divider system.
Although some of the more fanciful design aspects may not make it to production, Kia has hinted at including features like a dashboard-spanning display, removable triangular speakers, and the ability to project messages onto windows for communication with other drivers. The company is also working on integrating an AI voice assistant into their future EV models.

Technical specifications for the EV2 remain scarce, but it is expected to utilize a cost-effective version of the E-GMP dedicated EV platform, similar to the one used in the EV3. The vehicle is likely to feature 400-volt charging, a departure from the 800-volt charging found in other E-GMP models, while retaining bidirectional charging capabilities. Kia also unveiled the production-ready EV4 and the PV5 electric van alongside the Concept EV2, hinting at a diverse lineup of electric vehicles in the pipeline.
While Kia has expressed interest in bringing the EV3, EV4, and PV5 to the U.S. market, it remains uncertain if the EV2 will also be part of their American offerings. As the automotive industry continues to shift towards electrification, Kia’s latest innovations are a testament to their commitment to sustainable mobility.
