Tesla has surprised fans by adding a unique new item to its online shop: the limited-edition Plaid Pickleball Paddle created in collaboration with premium paddle maker Selkirk. Priced at $350, the paddle takes inspiration from Tesla’s high-performance Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid vehicles, both in design and materials. Although the paddle is currently sold out, interested buyers can sign up to be notified by email when it becomes available again.
According to Tesla’s official Shop listing, the Plaid Pickleball Paddle by Selkirk was designed with the same innovative approach that the automaker applies to its vehicles. The paddle was created through rigorous testing and ideation, with every curve and layer engineered for optimal performance on the court.
The collaboration between Tesla and Selkirk was the result of discussions between Selkirk Co-Owner and Director of Research & Development Tom Barnes and Tesla Director of Product Design Javier Verdura. Selkirk describes the paddle as “years in the making,” highlighting its USAP approval and top-tier quality. The paddle features a unique design with a focus on peak playability, utilizing advanced materials like InfiniGrit surface, Florek Carbon Fiber face, PureFoam core, and MOI tuning weights.
From a specifications standpoint, the Plaid Pickleball Paddle is not just a novelty item. It weighs between 7.8 and 8.1 ounces, measures 16.4 inches in length, 7.5 inches in width, and has a thickness of 16mm. The paddle’s edgeless design, integrated weights, and open throat face are all designed to maximize swing aerodynamics on the court.
The paddle comes with a carrying bag and fits seamlessly into Tesla’s expanding lineup of Plaid-branded merchandise. In addition to the Plaid Pickleball Paddle, Tesla has released a range of Plaid-themed products over the years, including mugs, apparel, accessories, and even a Plaid track hat celebrating the Model S Plaid’s Nürburgring lap record.
The release of the Plaid Pickleball Paddle coincides with a wave of new Tesla Shop releases just in time for the holidays. Whether the paddle will become a recurring product or remain a limited-run collectible is yet to be seen, but its quick sell-out indicates strong demand among Tesla fans.
