Scout is set to join Tesla and Rivian in offering innovative software-based modes and features for its Traveler electric SUV and Terra electric pickup truck.
A recent TikTok video by Jordan Sanford revealed a glimpse of a pet mode on the infotainment display of a Scout EV. Scout spokesperson Kathy Graham confirmed the existence of this mode, along with a camp mode and night mode, to Green Car Reports. Graham mentioned that these modes are still in the concept phase and more detailed software features will be shared as production draws closer.
Scout Traveler concept
The pet mode is designed to regulate climate controls to ensure the safety and comfort of pets left in the vehicle, similar to features like Dog Mode from Tesla and Pet Comfort mode from Rivian. Both Tesla and Rivian have introduced various niche modes through software updates, with Rivian even offering a Camp mode that utilizes air suspension for a leveled sleeping surface.
Scout’s camp mode will handle audible alerts, energy settings, lighting, and more for outdoor activities. While an air suspension and active damping will be available as options, automatic leveling was not explicitly mentioned. The night mode will dim interior displays and exterior lighting to minimize light pollution and enhance stargazing experiences for drivers and passengers.
Scout Terra concept
Scout recently unveiled concept versions of the Traveler and Terra models, claiming they are 85% accurate to the final production models. These vehicles are expected to hit the market in 2027, with manufacturing taking place at a new $2 billion facility in South Carolina.
Capitalizing on the nostalgia surrounding the discontinued International Harvester Scout from 1980, Scout operates as a new brand under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. Unlike VW Group of America, Scout is managed directly by the parent company, allowing for a direct-sales approach similar to Tesla and Rivian.
