Rivian’s Future Software Updates to Include Text Messaging Capabilities in 2025
- Rivian’s chief software officer confirmed the company’s EVs will get text messaging capabilities in 2025
- The text messaging solution will utilize native text-to-speech via a new voice tech stack
- Google Cast and native YouTube application will come in the next software update
Two years ago, Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid announced plans for text-to-speech text messaging abilities in Rivian electric vehicles.
However, the functionality has not yet been implemented in any Rivian vehicles.
During a recent fireside chat at the Rivian Space in Los Angeles, Bensaid revealed that native text messaging abilities are set to be integrated into Rivians in 2025.
Bensaid acknowledged previous challenges with text-to-speech solutions and emphasized the need for a seamless experience for both iOS and Android users.
The new voice tech stack being developed by Rivian aims to provide a rich and improved user experience, including text-to-speech capabilities.
Alongside text-to-speech, a physical interface on the screen will allow users to interact with text messages, offering a comprehensive solution.
Google Cast and native YouTube implementation will be part of the upcoming software update, with plans for Dolby Surround Sound integration in the future.
Rivian is also working on enabling Google Cast for rear screens to enhance the passenger experience while driving.
Overall, Rivian’s focus on software updates aims to provide a superior user experience and set new standards in the industry.
