Rivian Announces Exciting New Software Updates for R1S and R1T Electric Vehicles
Rivian recently unveiled a range of new software-enabled features for its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup truck, made possible by the latest over-the-air software update 2025.06.
One of the most notable additions for Gen 2 vehicles (2025 model year and beyond) is the introduction of Enhanced Highway Assist, a hands-free driver assist system. This system, building upon Rivian’s previous Highway Assist, allows for extended periods of hands-off driving on divided highways, with control over steering, acceleration, and braking.
Rally Mode, previously available on other R1 variants, has been expanded to Performance Dual-Motor models. This mode enhances throttle response and provides sharper steering within the R1 models’ Off-Road mode.

Rivian Performance Upgrade (extra cost)
Rivian has also made its Performance Upgrade available for Dual-Motor models with the Standard+, Large, and Max battery packs, offering a power boost to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft of torque. This upgrade includes three new drive modes—Sport, Rally, and Soft Sand.
Furthermore, owners can now register aftermarket wheel-and-tire setups in the vehicle’s settings menu for more precise range estimates, enhancing the customization options for Rivian vehicles.

Additional updates include features like a chime alerting drivers when the vehicle ahead moves, side mirror tilt-down in reverse, closing charge port doors via the mobile app, and tire puncture detection. These enhancements will be available on both Gen 2 and earlier Gen 1 models, with the chime feature rolling out to Gen 1 vehicles at a later date.
