Rivian Adventure Network Now Open to All Electric Vehicles
From the outset, Rivian had envisioned its charging infrastructure to be accessible to all electric vehicle owners. The company has now announced that it is welcoming electric vehicles from other brands to utilize its newly opened Adventure Network DC fast-charging sites.
The first of Rivian’s next-generation Adventure Network sites was unveiled in Joshua Tree, California, on Thursday. Additional locations are set to open in Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York within the next year.
These charging sites will provide DC fast charging at up to 900 volts, initially equipped with Combined Charging Standard (CCS) connectors. Rivian also mentioned that vehicles using the North American Charging Standard (NACS) will have the option to charge with adapters, with built-in NACS connectors to be included in a future update.
Rivian has ensured that these chargers meet the necessary design and siting requirements to be eligible for state and infrastructure funding. The company anticipates government support to aid in the expansion of the network, which is seen as a significant revenue stream moving forward.
The new chargers will feature larger displays and a tap-to-pay option for convenient usage, with or without the Rivian mobile app. Rivian has committed to utilizing 100% renewable energy matching to reduce the overall carbon footprint of EVs charged on its network.
Rivian’s Adventure Network chargers were first introduced in 2022 as part of a dual-tier strategy alongside Waypoint Level 2 AC destination chargers. Positioned as a rugged counterpart to the Tesla Supercharger network, these chargers are strategically located near recreational areas to cater to outdoor enthusiasts.
