Rivian is set to introduce paid software upgrades that will unlock additional range and power in the dual-motor versions of its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup.
As part of Rivian’s upcoming 2025.06 software release, Wassym Bensaid, the automaker’s chief software officer, announced the availability of a Dual Performance upgrade. Priced at $5,000, this upgrade will boost the output of base dual-motor models from 533 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft, resulting in a quicker 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds compared to the previous 4.5 seconds.

This enhanced performance option has been part of Rivian’s strategy since the launch of the updated 2025 R1S and R1T models, which also offer tri-motor and quad-motor powertrains. Tri-motor variants deliver 850 hp and 1,103 lb-ft of torque with a swift 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, while quad-motor configurations provide 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft, shaving off 0.4 seconds from the tri-motor’s acceleration time.
Bensaid clarified that the Dual Performance upgrade will be compatible with vehicles equipped with the Standard+, Large, Large+, and Max battery packs. The base Standard Pack, which utilizes LFP cells introduced in the 2025 models, will not receive the upgrade due to limitations in performance capabilities associated with LFP chemistry.

Bensaid also mentioned that a future software update is in the works to unlock the full capacity of the Large+ Pack, a 141.5-kwh Max Pack currently software-limited to match the 109.4 kwh capacity of the Large Pack. Rivian introduced this option last year to expedite vehicle deliveries and meet the demand for the Large Pack.
Rivian’s commitment to regular software updates is evident, with recent enhancements including the ability for the infotainment system to recognize wheel and tire changes by owners, as well as forthcoming features like native text messaging and launch control for pre-2025 Rivian models.
