Renault is delving into its past once again with a high-performance iteration of its budget-friendly electric hatchback.
The limited-edition Renault 5 Turbo 3E, set to be delivered in 2027, is a tribute to the extreme performance version of the original hatchback. With only 1,980 units to be produced, a nod to the launch year of the original 5 Turbo.
The original Renault 5 Turbo, renowned for its turbo-4 engine placed in the middle of the car and rear-wheel-drive setup, inspired this all-electric revival. The modern version features a pair of in-wheel motors delivering a total of 533 hp, mounted on 20-inch wheels.

Equipped with a 70-kwh battery pack, Renault estimates a range of approximately 250 miles on the WLTP testing cycle. The 800-volt electrical system enables 350-kw DC fast charging, allowing a 15-80% charge in about 15 minutes.
Weighing in at 3,395 pounds, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E boasts a carbon-fiber body and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 168 mph.
Remaining true to the original design, the 5 Turbo 3E features retro-inspired liveries and design elements, including extended wheelbase and distinctive fenders.

The interior of the 5 Turbo 3E features bucket seats, six-point harnesses, a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.3-inch central touchscreen, all complemented by carbon-fiber accents.
In addition to the Turbo 3E, Renault’s Alpine brand has introduced the A290, a 220-hp variant of the electric Renault 5. While pricing details are yet to be revealed, the Turbo 3E is anticipated to be considerably more expensive due to its exclusive production and extensive enhancements.
Renault’s commitment to blending retro styling with modern technology is evident in models like the Turbo 3E. The automaker’s recent unveiling of the Filante Record 2025 test car further underscores this approach, as it prepares for range and efficiency record attempts in the near future.
