Stellantis has reportedly axed plans for a larger-battery version of the Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck that was expected to provide a whopping 500 miles of range.
As per a recent report by Mopar Insiders, Ram has informed suppliers that the long-range model has been shelved, instructing them to halt work and spending on related components. A Stellantis spokesperson cited shifting consumer interests as the driving force behind Ram’s decision to prioritize the launch of the Ramcharger.

2025 Ram 1500 REV
The decision to scrap the larger battery means that the Ram 1500 REV will stick with the 168-kWh pack, which was projected to deliver up to 350 miles of range. While this falls short of the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra EV twins and Rivian R1T, the Ram 1500 REV boasts 800-volt charging capability, allowing for a rapid 110-mile range recovery in just 10 minutes with a 350-kW CCS connector, as previously stated by Stellantis.
Despite the setback regarding the 500-mile target initially set for the truck, Ram introduced the model with much fanfare at the 2023 New York Auto Show and during a 2023 Super Bowl ad. Originally slated for a 2024 release as a 2025 model, the electric truck’s launch has faced delays, with the most recent setback pushing it to 2026, according to Stellantis.

2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger
Instead of rolling out the all-electric REV, Stellantis has opted to launch the series-hybrid Ram 1500 Ramcharger first. Set to hit the market in the first half of this year, the Ramcharger combines a 92-kWh battery pack with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine serving as a range extender to achieve 145 miles of pure electric range, bringing the total range to 690 miles when factoring in the gas powertrain. Offering comparable performance metrics to the REV in terms of acceleration, towing capacity, and payload, the Ramcharger aims to bring a unique offering to the table rather than merely playing catch-up with rival electric pickups. The cancellation of the 229-kWh REV variant further solidifies the Ramcharger’s position as the spotlight-stealer in Stellantis’ electric truck lineup.
