On February 15, 2025, protests erupted across Canada and the United States targeting Tesla and CEO Elon Musk. Demonstrations took place outside Tesla showrooms and facilities in various cities, including Austin, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, New York, Golden Valley, and San Luis Obispo. Over 36 events were reported nationwide.
In the U.S., protesters focused on Musk’s involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a task force aimed at reducing federal spending under the Trump administration. Signs urging a boycott of Tesla products and calling for divestment from the company were prominently displayed.
In Canada, protests were held in Langford, British Columbia, with additional events planned in Alberta. The Langford location was targeted with vulgar messages spray-painted on the building early in the morning, although it was quickly cleaned up before the protests began. While around seven people participated in the demonstration, concerns were raised about the vandalism of private property during protests.
Canadian protesters also voiced their opposition to potential tariffs on Tesla vehicles, following threats from the U.S. government. Club Tesla Quebec reported that 80% of its members were in favor of distancing the brand from Musk.
The events underscored the growing discontent towards Tesla and Elon Musk, with protesters highlighting various issues including Musk’s involvement in government initiatives, concerns about tariffs, and calls for ethical consumer behavior. The protests reflect a broader trend of public scrutiny and activism towards companies and their leaders, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency in corporate governance.
