Porsche is currently recalling 2,941 electric Macans due to excessively bright headlights, which can potentially reduce visibility for oncoming drivers and increase the risk of accidents.
The affected models include the 2024 and 2025 Porsche Macan Electric vehicles manufactured between March 15, 2024, and November 4, 2024. The issue stems from the headlight-control software being programmed to European standards instead of U.S. standards, resulting in beams that surpass the brightness levels specified in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, as reported by the NHTSA.
2024 Porsche Macan (electric)
Porsche has acknowledged the programming error and stated that it has been rectified for later production vehicles. However, all of the recalled vehicles are estimated to be affected. Customers are required to visit dealerships to have the headlight software reprogrammed at no cost, as the solution cannot be implemented via an over-the-air update.
Porsche plans to send out owner notification letters on January 24, 2025. For more information, owners can contact the automaker’s customer service department at 1-800-767-7243. The reference number for this recall is ARC5.
2024 Porsche Macan (electric)
The electric Macan was introduced for the 2024 model year as one of the first electric vehicles based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) shared with Audi. This platform also underpins Audi’s Q6 E-Tron SUV and A6 E-Tron sedan. The new architecture brings advanced technology used in the Porsche Taycan to the mainstream market, including an 800-volt charging system with a peak charge rate of 270 kW.
Initially, only dual-motor Macan 4 and Macan Turbo models were available in 2024. For 2025, Porsche expanded the range by introducing a single-motor rear-wheel-drive base model, reducing the electric Macan’s price by approximately $3,000. Additionally, a dual-motor Macan 4S was introduced, fitting between the Macan 4 and Turbo models. Porsche continues to sell the previous-generation gasoline Macan alongside the Macan Electric, with plans to exclusively offer the electric model starting in 2026, according to Motor Authority.
