The highly anticipated Polestar 6 electric sports car is set to arrive after the recently confirmed Polestar 7 SUV, indicating a delay from the original 2026 launch timeframe.
According to a report by Australia’s CarExpert and confirmation from Polestar spokesperson Mike Ofiara, the Polestar 6 will be prioritized at a later stage. Polestar’s current focus is on releasing the 3 and 4 SUVs, followed by the Polestar 5 fastback later this year, then the 7 SUV, and finally the Polestar 6. The exact release date for the Polestar 7 has yet to be finalized.
Polestar initially unveiled the Polestar 6 with the O2 concept car in March 2022, with production plans for 2026 announced shortly after. However, the recent shift in priorities has led to a delay in the production timeline. The Polestar 7, which is now taking precedence, is expected to be a higher-volume model compared to the niche Polestar 6. The compact SUV will be manufactured in Europe to avoid tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles and will introduce a new architecture for future Polestar models.
While details on the Polestar 7 are still scarce, it has been hinted at since 2022. Initially speculated to replace the Polestar 2 as the entry-level model, recent reports suggest that a direct successor to the Polestar 2 will be introduced later in the decade. The next-generation Polestar 2 is likely to share the same architecture as the Polestar 7 and could also be produced in Europe.
