Nissan Ariya owners will now have the convenience of charging their electric vehicles at Tesla Supercharger stations starting December 10, as announced by the automaker on Wednesday.
Beginning in 2025, new EVs sold by Nissan in the U.S. will be equipped with North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports. However, existing vehicles can also charge at Supercharger stations by using a $235 adapter, which can be ordered now, according to Nissan.

Many major EV brands are now planning to adopt the NACS port standard and provide adapters to owners of existing EVs. While Ford initially offered free adapters, most other automakers, including General Motors, Kia, Polestar, and Volvo, are now requiring customers to purchase them for Supercharger access.
Nissan has integrated 17,800 Supercharger sites into its Nissan Energy Charging Network interface, offering real-time charger availability status and payment options through the MyNissan app. Similar features are also available for chargers on the Electrify America, Shell Recharge, EVgo, and ChargePoint networks in the U.S.

This charging capability is exclusive to the Ariya, which features a Combined Charging Standard (CCS) port like most new EVs. Nissan has no plans to offer NACS adapters for the Leaf, the last EV using the CHAdeMO port currently on sale. The Leaf is confirmed to continue until the 2025 model year, with a potential crossover-like successor featuring a NACS port.
Additionally, Nissan’s Tesla-provided adapter solution includes a stabilizing shim for the charge port, ensuring a secure connection with charge connectors. This piece does not need to be removed for J1772, CCS, or NACS charge connectors, as confirmed by Nissan to Green Car Reports.
The Ariya was recognized as a finalist for Green Car Reports Best Car To Buy 2024, praised for its quiet interior, comfortable ride, nimble handling, and user-friendly interface. Introduced in 2023, the Ariya received price reductions of up to $6,000 for the 2024 model year.
Updated on December 6, 2024, to highlight the role of the additional piece in Nissan’s adapter solution.
