The Future of Polestar Electric Vehicles
In a recent interview with Autocar, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller revealed plans for a direct successor to the Polestar 2 electric vehicle, set to debut toward the end of the decade.
Despite the introduction of the Polestar 7 small SUV, which many thought would replace the Polestar 2 as the brand’s entry-level model, Lohscheller clarified that this won’t be the case. Instead, Polestar aims to expand its lineup to six models, with the next-generation Polestar 2 and the new Polestar 7 flanking the Polestar 3 and 4 SUVs, the Polestar 5 fastback, and the Polestar 6 sports car.

Contrary to previous speculation, Polestar remains committed to the current-generation Polestar 2, which will continue alongside the upcoming redesigned model. The new model will utilize a fresh architecture introduced with the Polestar 7 and will serve as the foundation for all future Polestar vehicles.
While the exact arrival date of this new SUV is not confirmed, Lohscheller mentioned that it will debut after the Polestar 7. Additionally, Autocar reports that the redesigned Polestar 2 will be manufactured in Europe, potentially at Geely’s new facility in Slovakia, making it easier for potential U.S. importation.

With a potential Europe-built Polestar 2 on the horizon, the brand may find it easier to offer the model in the U.S. at a competitive price point compared to the previously planned Polestar 4. Initially intended for production in China, the Polestar 4’s manufacturing location was shifted to South Korea to navigate trade policies affecting Chinese-made EVs.
