Tesla recently introduced a new program where they offer weekend-long Demo Drives in the new Model Y, allowing people to experience what it’s like to own an electric vehicle (EV). As someone living in a townhouse without charging infrastructure, I was intrigued by this opportunity and decided to take advantage of it.
I was contacted by a Sales Advisor from a local showroom who offered me the chance to take the Model Y for a weekend. Excited by the prospect, I scheduled a weekend when family and friends could join me to experience features like Full Self-Driving. I picked up the car on a Saturday evening as the showroom closed and wasted no time in hitting the road.
One of the first things I wanted to do was showcase Full Self-Driving to my loved ones. From hands-free journeys to taking my parents on their first FSD experience, it was eye-opening to see their reactions and how quickly their perception of autonomous driving technology changed.
Living in a neighborhood without charging infrastructure had been a concern for me when considering an EV. However, driving the Long Range All-Wheel-Drive Model Y with a range of 327 miles alleviated those worries. Despite running errands, dining out, and leisurely drives, we returned the car with plenty of charge left, proving that regular visits to a Supercharger could easily suffice.
The experience with Full Self-Driving was both impressive and insightful. While the technology excelled in most scenarios, parking lots were identified as a weak point. However, overall, the convenience and ease of use far outweighed any minor issues encountered during the drives.
From navigating busy highways to handling challenging off-ramps, the Model Y with Full Self-Driving showcased its capabilities admirably. The seamless merging, lane changes, and parking assistance were particularly impressive, making the entire driving experience a breeze.
In conclusion, the Demo Drive in the new Model Y was a game-changer for me. It dispelled my concerns about residential charging and solidified my belief in the benefits of Full Self-Driving technology. The weekend spent with the Model Y was not only enjoyable but also educational, paving the way for a potential trade-in in the near future. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that left me eager to explore more EV options in the coming months.
