The latest buzz in the automotive world is that Mitsubishi is gearing up to launch a brand new electric vehicle – a small electric SUV. According to a report by Automotive News, this exciting new model is set to hit the U.S. market in the second half of 2026.

Insider sources have revealed that this upcoming EV from Mitsubishi is expected to be a “small crossover coupe-styled vehicle similar to the planned Nissan Leaf replacement.” With Nissan holding a 34% stake in Mitsubishi, there is potential for collaboration between the two automakers, especially considering the platform sharing between the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Nissan Rogue.
Teaser for future Mitsubishi U.S. lineup
If all goes as planned, this new Mitsubishi electric SUV will mark the brand’s return to the all-electric segment in the U.S. since the discontinuation of the i-MiEV in 2017. It is also expected to kick off a series of new EVs, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids that Mitsubishi has in store for the coming years, as part of its “Momentum 2030” plan.
Mitsubishi’s ambitious plan includes launching one new or refreshed model every year from 2026 onwards, featuring a mix of advanced internal-combustion engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery-electric vehicles. With a teaser image showcasing seven upcoming vehicles, including the possibility of an electric pickup truck, Mitsubishi is definitely making waves in the electric vehicle market.
