Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 7,362 EQB electric SUVs due to a battery issue that poses a fire risk. Customers are advised not to fully charge their vehicles until a remedy is implemented.
The recall affects certain 2022-2024 Mercedes EQB models that received battery cells from an early-production batch. These cells are more susceptible to internal short circuits, increasing the risk of fires while driving or when the vehicle is parked.
If any issues arise while driving, owners will receive a battery-malfunction warning message in the instrument cluster. However, there may be no external signs of a problem when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Mercedes has not reported any fires or warranty claims in the U.S. but was made aware of the issue through incidents in other markets. Changes in the manufacturing process have been implemented for vehicles produced after Jan. 24, 2024, to address the problem.
Owners of vehicles manufactured before this date should visit dealerships for the installation of updated battery management software free of charge.
Until the issue is resolved, Mercedes advises owners not to charge their vehicles beyond 80% battery capacity. This limitation reduces the usable range to less than 200 miles based on the 2024 range ratings of 205 to 251 miles.

Mercedes will begin notifying owners by mail starting Apr. 1. For more information, owners can contact the automaker’s customer service department at 1-800-367-6372.
Launched for the 2022 model year, the EQB brings an electric powertrain to the GLB-Class crossover, maintaining its distinctive boxy design in a market filled with sleeker crossovers. The 2024 refresh added a larger standard touchscreen and Plug & Charge compatibility while retaining its unique shape.
