Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles Now Accessible at 20,000 Tesla Supercharger Stations
Mercedes-Benz has delivered on its promise to allow their electric vehicles to charge at over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across the United States. This move marks a significant step in the collaboration between the two automotive giants.
In January, Mercedes-Benz announced that their EVs would gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network starting in February. While the official switch has not been announced by Mercedes, Tesla has updated its list of supported automakers to include Mercedes-Benz, indicating that the integration is now in place.
The activation of Supercharger capabilities will be done through a software update that will be installed by Mercedes-Benz dealerships, rather than over-the-air. Mercedes-Benz will contact customers to schedule this update, which will enable plug-and-charge functionality and integrate Superchargers into Mercedes’ app and infotainment systems.
Customers can also purchase adapters for $185 through dealerships, with availability in the US expected in this quarter and in Canada in Q2. Mercedes anticipates that drivers in both countries will have access to approximately 20,000 Supercharger stations.
Looking ahead, Mercedes plans to incorporate Tesla NACS ports in new vehicles for the North American market starting this year. This move follows the industry trend towards standardizing charging infrastructure.
In addition to joining the NACS network, Mercedes-Benz is also part of the Ionna charging network joint venture, which aims to establish 30,000 chargers across North America. The first Ionna site is scheduled to open later this year, underscoring Mercedes’ commitment to expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
