Lucid Motors Unveils New Earth & Cosmos SUVs to Compete with Tesla Model Y
Known for their cutting-edge electric vehicles like the Lucid Air and Gravity, Lucid Motors is now gearing up to enter the mainstream EV market. At the recent 2026 Investor Day in New York City, Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff outlined the company’s plan to introduce a new midsize platform to rival the Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2.
Introducing the Cosmos, Earth, and Lunar
Lucid is taking a unique approach by developing three distinct SUV models – Cosmos, Earth, and Lunar – sharing up to 95% of their components to reduce manufacturing costs. The Cosmos, set to debut this summer, is a sleek five-seater aimed at efficiency and performance, while the Earth offers a more rugged design for off-road enthusiasts. The Lunar, a two-seat robotaxi concept, is also in the works.
New Powertrain Technology
To achieve a competitive price point below $50,000, Lucid has introduced the Atlas electric drive unit, offering improved efficiency and cost savings. With a range of 300 miles on a 69-kWh battery pack, the Cosmos is expected to lead the industry in energy efficiency.
Enhanced Interior Features
The midsize SUVs will boast a 36-inch cockpit screen and traditional analog controls for user convenience. Physical door handles and hard buttons for audio and climate controls cater to drivers who prefer tactile interfaces.
Partnerships and Revenue Strategy
Lucid’s collaboration with Uber to deploy autonomous midsize vehicles on the ride-hailing network signifies a shift towards alternative revenue streams. By leveraging their efficient new platform, Lucid aims to achieve positive cash flow by the end of the decade.
