Lexus has recently introduced the all-new eighth-generation ES sedan at Auto Shanghai in China, and it comes with the option of either a hybrid or a full electric powertrain. This marks the first time the Lexus ES is available with pure electric power, adding to the lineup of environmentally friendly vehicles. While a combustion engine option is still available, it is limited to a four-cylinder in hybrid form.
One of the key changes in the new ES is its increased size compared to the previous model. The sedan has grown by 6.5 inches, now measuring 202.4 inches in length and sitting on a stretched 116.1-inch wheelbase. Despite the increase in size, the design of the new ES incorporates some interesting features that set it apart from its predecessor.
Drawing inspiration from the LF-ZC concept, the new ES features a bolder and more eye-catching design. The front end sports a two-tier layout with daytime running lights above hidden headlights, while the side profile is accented by a gloss black trim piece that runs through both doors. The backside of the sedan showcases a fastback-style design, giving it a unique and modern look.
Inside, the new ES offers a posh and minimalistic interior. The Lexus badge has been replaced with a LEXUS script for a more premium feel. The driver is treated to a 12.3-inch digital display, while the infotainment system is displayed on a 14.0-inch central screen. An additional 14.0-inch display is available for the front passenger as well.
Two electric variants are available: the ES 350e and 500e. The ES 350e features a single 221-horsepower motor, while the 500e boasts a dual-motor setup with 338 hp. The front-wheel-drive ES EV offers a claimed CLTC range of 379 miles, making it a viable option for long-distance driving.
For those who prefer a hybrid option, the ES 350h packs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 244 hp. The ES 500e offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a total system output of 194 hp. Both hybrid variants provide a good balance of power and efficiency.
The new ES is built on the TNGA GA-K platform, which has been stiffened to improve responsiveness and agility. While the ES 500e may be on the heavier side at 4,861 pounds, it is expected to offer a comfortable and refined driving experience. The new ES is set to debut in the U.S. and Europe in mid-2026, offering customers a fresh and innovative option in the luxury sedan segment.
