Tesla Launches Official Cybertruck CCS Adapter, Exclusive to Korea
For North American Cybertruck owners, the lack of a suitable charging solution has been a long-standing issue. Despite being manufactured in Texas and spending time in the US and Canada, the necessary hardware for high-speed third-party charging is now making its debut on the opposite side of the globe.
Tesla Korea has introduced a new CCS Combo 1 Adapter specifically tailored for the Cybertruck. This adapter addresses the two main obstacles that have hindered owners from utilizing the existing adapter: physical compatibility and voltage specifications.
Incompatibility Issues with Original Adapter
One of the major challenges faced by Cybertruck owners has been a physical fitment problem. The current OEM CCS1 adapter from Tesla was initially designed for the sleek, flush charge ports found on Model S3XY vehicles, making it incompatible with the Cybertruck. The recessed charge port, due to the plastic fender trim, prevents the bulky head of the old adapter from fully connecting.
To resolve this issue, the new Korean adapter features an extended neck that clears the fender flare, ensuring a seamless OEM fit for the first time.
Voltage Upgrade for Improved Charging
In addition to addressing physical compatibility, the new adapter now supports 1000V / 500A charging, a significant improvement over the previous 500V / 300A capacity. This upgrade enables third-party stations to leverage the Cybertruck’s high-voltage charging capabilities, leading to faster charging speeds of up to 350kW. While 500kW charging is currently limited to select Supercharging sites, the new adapter opens up more options for Cybertruck owners.
Pricing and Availability
The new adapter is available for purchase on the Tesla Korea website for ₩375,000 KRW, equivalent to approximately $270 USD. This competitive price point aligns with premium third-party options available in the US market.
While Tesla has not confirmed if or when the adapter will be introduced in North America, the successful mass production and validation in Korea may pave the way for its eventual availability in other regions.
Stay tuned for updates on the potential release of the Cybertruck CCS adapter in North America, as Tesla responds to the growing demand for a suitable charging solution.
