Kia is set to unveil three new electric models at its upcoming EV Day event on February 27 in Tarragona, Spain. These models include the Kia EV2 Concept, as well as the production versions of the EV4 sedan and the PV5 van. The EV2 Concept is expected to be Kia’s smallest and most affordable EV yet, designed to appeal to European city car drivers. It will compete against popular models like the Citroën C3, Fiat Grande Panda, Dacia Spring, and Hyundai Inster. The EV2 is likely to use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, similar to the EV6 and Ioniq 5.
Production of the EV2 is scheduled to begin at Kia’s Slovakia plant later this year, with plans to produce up to 100,000 units annually by 2026. While a U.S. debut for the EV2 is unlikely, the EV4 sedan is expected to make its way to the American market. The EV4 Concept was revealed in Korea in late 2023, and the production version is anticipated to closely resemble its design. It is likely to offer front- or all-wheel drive options, along with a choice of a 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery pack. A hatchback variant of the EV4 sedan is also in the works.
Additionally, Kia will introduce the production version of the PV5, marking the brand’s entry into the electric commercial delivery vehicle segment. The PV5 will also showcase Kia’s PBV platform, a dedicated battery electric skateboard architecture that enables flexible combinations of various vehicle bodies. These new models from Kia demonstrate a shift towards more affordable and mainstream electric vehicles, catering to a wider range of consumer needs.
Overall, Kia’s upcoming EV offerings are expected to make a significant impact in the global electric vehicle market, showcasing the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation. The unveiling of these new models at the EV Day event will further solidify Kia’s position as a key player in the electric vehicle industry.
