- Kia introduces an electric camper van at SEMA
- The WKNDR gives a glimpse into the future of recreational EVs
- Production of the PV5 and its variations is scheduled for 2025
The SEMA show in Las Vegas is known for showcasing modified cars and aftermarket parts, but this year Kia surprised everyone with an electric adventure concept.
The Kia PV5 WKNDR concept is an electric van based on the Kia PV5, one of the Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) concepts introduced by Kia at CES earlier this year. While the PBV concepts focused on electric vans for commercial use, the PV5 WKNDR is designed for recreational purposes.
The PV5 WKNDR features a winch-equipped front bumper, rugged tires, and a pop-up camper attachment for off-grid adventures. It also comes equipped with built-in solar panels for self-sufficiency and an onboard air compressor for various uses.
For storage and convenience, the van includes a modular storage system that allows for easy access to supplies and equipment. Additionally, a mobile kitchen assembly is available for cooking at campsites.
Kia’s PBV concepts, including the PV5, offer a unique approach to electric vehicles with interchangeable upper bodies that can serve different purposes. The PV5 electric van is expected to enter production in 2025 with an annual capacity of 150,000 units.
With a dedicated factory in South Korea, Kia is gearing up for the future of electric vehicles and sees these vans as essential products for their EV lineup. The PV5 electric van may even pave the way for autonomous robotaxis in the future.
