The Toyota C-HR is making a comeback, but this time it’s not the awkward and boring crossover that we remember. Toyota has brought back the nameplate as an all-electric model, following the discontinuation of the gas version in 2022. The new C-HR has been redesigned to offer a more appealing and sporty look, and I recently had the opportunity to check it out at Toyota’s U.S. headquarters in Plano, Texas.
The previous generation of the Toyota C-HR didn’t perform well in the American market, with sales dropping significantly in its last year on sale. However, the new all-electric C-HR is a whole different story. It shares the e-TNGA platform with the larger Toyota bZ and promises to deliver a unique driving experience. With a coupe-like design, blacked-out elements, and horizontal light bars, the new C-HR stands out with its personality and style.
One of the most exciting features of the new C-HR is its performance capabilities. Equipped with dual electric motors producing 338 horsepower, this crossover can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. The all-wheel-drive system ensures a thrilling driving experience, making the C-HR a sporty and dynamic choice in the electric crossover segment.
In terms of range, the C-HR offers an estimated 290 miles on a single charge, thanks to its 74.7 kilowatt-hour battery. While this falls slightly short of the bZ’s range, it still provides a decent amount of driving distance for daily use. Additionally, the C-HR is equipped with fast-charging capabilities, allowing it to charge from 10-80% in just 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
On the inside, the C-HR offers a sleek and modern cabin with a 14-inch infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, and heated seats. However, there are some limitations in terms of interior space, especially in the rear seating area and cargo storage. The gauge cluster placement behind the steering wheel may also obstruct visibility for some drivers, which could be a potential drawback.
Overall, the new Toyota C-HR is an exciting addition to the electric vehicle market. With its blend of performance, range, and unique design, it has the potential to attract a new set of customers looking for a sporty and efficient crossover. The C-HR is set to go on sale in the U.S. early next year, and pricing details will be announced closer to the launch date. Stay tuned for more updates on this electrifying new model from Toyota.
