Tesla has introduced an updated version of its Model Y compact crossover, codenamed Juniper, which is now available for order in the U.S. The new model, set to be delivered starting in March, is currently only offered in a special Model Y Launch Series variant with a starting price of $59,990.
The Model Y Launch Series comes fully loaded with exclusive features such as a model-specific tailgate badge, puddle lamps, door sill tread plates, and a “Launch Series” script on the center console. The interior boasts premium materials, a 15-speaker audio system with a subwoofer, and standard features like Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and Acceleration Boost.
Under the hood, the Launch Series is equipped with the Long Range All-Wheel Drive powertrain. While Tesla has not disclosed the horsepower figures, the vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 125 mph, and offering an estimated range of between 303 and 320 miles. Comparatively, the pre-facelifted Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive had a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds, a top speed of 135 mph, and an EPA-rated range of 311 miles.
For buyers looking for a more budget-friendly option, the pre-facelifted Model Y is still available starting at $44,990 for the entry-level Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive configuration. The updated Model Y features a redesigned front end with light bars at both ends, borrowing design cues from Tesla’s Cybercab robotaxi concept.
Inside, the updated Model Y boasts a refreshed interior with new ambient lighting, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch rear screen, ventilated seats, and power-reclining rear seats that fold flat. Tesla has also improved the suspension for a more comfortable ride, added acoustic glass for a quieter cabin experience, and included a new front bumper-mounted camera for parking assistance.
The Launch Series is a limited release, with Tesla yet to announce when additional versions of the updated Model Y will be available. Overall, the updated Model Y promises to deliver enhanced performance, technology, and comfort to electric vehicle enthusiasts in the U.S. and beyond.
