When you’re on the go and need to charge your USB-powered devices in your Tesla, it’s important to keep the USB ports powered on. Whether it’s your phone, wireless headphones, tablet, or laptop, here are some tips to ensure your devices stay charged while you’re out and about.
To keep the USB ports powered, you can activate features like Sentry Mode, Keep Climate, Dog Mode, or Camp Mode. These modes will prevent the USB ports from turning off when the vehicle goes to sleep after a period of inactivity. However, keep in mind that these modes consume power themselves, so it’s best to use Sentry Mode if your main goal is just to charge your devices.
You can charge your devices using the USB ports in the front console, the USB-A port in the glovebox, or the USB ports behind the center armrest. Depending on the model and year of your vehicle, these ports may be USB-A or USB-C.
It’s important to note that Camp Mode will keep the vehicle unlocked and the climate system enabled, so it’s not ideal if you want your vehicle to remain locked. If you’re charging a phone that serves as a phone key for your Tesla, be sure to disable the Phone Key feature to ensure your vehicle locks properly.
The Cybertruck offers additional options with its 120V and 240V outlets, which can be powered even when the vehicle is locked. To enable these outlets, go to Vehicle Controls > Outlets & Mods and turn on the “Keep On Cabin and Bed Outlets” feature.
Remember that power to the outlets is disabled if the vehicle is plugged in or if ambient temperatures are extremely low. Stay informed about these temperature limits and share your knowledge on social media!
