Ford has recently fulfilled its commitment to provide 139,935 complimentary Fast Charging Adapters to its U.S. electric vehicle customers, allowing them to access Tesla’s Supercharger network with ease. This initiative, which began in 2024, was aimed at simplifying the charging process for Ford EV owners. Each adapter came with a personalized message from Ford CEO Jim Farley, expressing gratitude for their support.
Farley emphasized the importance of these adapters in enhancing the charging experience for Ford customers, stating, “With these adapters, we’ve made it easier than ever for our customers to charge on the go.” The move marked a significant milestone for Ford, as they became the first automaker to gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in the U.S. This access has provided Ford EV owners with over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers to utilize, a substantial increase from the initial 15,300 available in 2024.
The impact of this initiative has been immediate, with Tesla Superchargers accounting for nearly 20% of all Ford EV charging sessions away from home by February 2025. Customers like Mark and June Eakin, who drive an F-150 Lightning, have praised the adapters for simplifying their road trips, stating, “Half of our charging this year was at Tesla Superchargers. It made planning routes so much easier.”
Ford’s investment in expanding charging infrastructure goes beyond providing complimentary adapters. The BlueOval Charge Network, North America’s largest integrated public charging network, now boasts 44,000 DC fast chargers—a 53% increase since early 2024. Moreover, the network’s reliability has improved significantly, with an all-time high for first-time charging success rates recorded in February 2025.
In addition to the complimentary adapters, Ford has collaborated with Lectron to launch a co-developed Fast Charging Adapter tailored to Ford-specific needs. This adapter ensures reliable and efficient charging for Ford EV owners. Farley expressed the company’s ongoing commitment to simplifying EV ownership, stating, “We’re not done yet. This is just one step in making EV ownership simpler and more convenient. We’re excited for what’s next.”
Overall, Ford’s efforts to enhance the charging experience for its EV customers have been met with positive feedback and have significantly improved the accessibility and convenience of charging on the go. This commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction underscores Ford’s dedication to advancing the electric vehicle industry.
