Ford Recalls 11,922 F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Trucks
Ford has issued a recall for 11,922 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks due to a potential issue with suspension components that could lead to loss of control.
The affected models include 2023 and 2024 versions of the F-150 Lightning. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these vehicles may have front upper control arm ball-joint nuts that were not properly tightened at the factory, which could result in the control arm detaching. Control arms are crucial components that help maintain alignment and stability of the wheel hub and suspension.
If the ball-joint nut is loose or missing, drivers may experience vibration, hear unusual sounds during suspension movement, and face a potential loss of directional control. Ford has reported one accident related to this issue, along with two field reports and a warranty claim.
To address the problem, Ford dealers will inspect and replace the affected ball-joint nut and knuckle assembly if necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent out on February 3, 2025. Owners can also contact Ford’s customer service department at 1-866-436-7332 for more information, referencing recall number 24S76.
The F-150 Lightning, introduced in 2022, underwent updates in 2024, including a range-boosting heat pump and the addition of the Flash trim level between the XLT and Lariat models.
