Ford Streamlines Apple iPhone Users’ Access to Tesla Superchargers
With the introduction of adapters that enable Ford’s electric vehicles to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations, the automaker is making it easier for Apple iPhone users to navigate to these charging points.
On Monday, Ford announced that drivers of Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning using Apple Maps EV route planning via Apple CarPlay can now specify a Tesla Supercharger or other North American Charging Standard (NACS) DC fast charger.

Drivers can now choose NACS as a preference in the settings menu of Apple Maps and be directed to stations using that connector type without having to manually enter Supercharger sites as navigation destinations, Ford stated.
This feature is compatible with iOS 17 and newer versions of Apple’s mobile operating system and does not require any updates to the vehicle itself. Ford has been offering adapters allowing Ford EV owners to utilize Tesla charging since early 2024.
Apple Maps EV route planning was initially launched for the Mach-E and Lightning in 2023 by Ford. The company later introduced similar functionality for Google Maps and Android Auto at CES 2024 and subsequently rolled it out, including the ability to display Tesla Supercharger stations.

Ford highlighted that Apple Maps EV route planning covers all NACS chargers, not just Superchargers. Although there are few non-Tesla NACS fast-chargers currently, this could change with the ongoing expansion of the Ionna network. Supported by eight automakers (excluding Ford), Ionna aims to have 30,000 charging connectors by 2030, encompassing a mix of NACS and Combined Charging Standard (CCS) types.
