Apple Maps in CarPlay Enhances Charging Experience for Ford Electric Vehicle Owners
Ford electric vehicle (EV) owners can now enjoy a more streamlined charging experience thanks to a new feature available through Apple Maps in CarPlay. This exciting development allows drivers of the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning to be automatically directed to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) fast charging stations, including compatible Tesla Superchargers, during their trip planning.
This convenient feature requires no software update and is now accessible for vehicles using CarPlay with an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Previously, Ford drivers had to manually select and add a NACS charger to their route. However, with Apple Maps’ EV Routing, the app will now suggest NACS charging stations along the way, providing an estimate of the battery level upon arrival and indicating when a charge is needed.
To utilize this feature, Ford drivers simply need to connect their iPhone to CarPlay, open Apple Maps Settings, and select NACS fast charging stations as their preferred network (such as Tesla Superchargers). Then, they can enter their destination, and Apple Maps will automatically calculate the route, including necessary charging stops.
It’s important to note that Ford drivers will require a Fast Charging Adapter compatible with NACS chargers in order to access the Tesla Supercharger network. This adapter can be conveniently purchased through Ford’s official channels.
Ford was the first automaker to announce access to the Tesla Supercharger network, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the EV experience for its customers. With this new integration of Apple Maps in CarPlay, Ford electric vehicle owners can enjoy a smoother and more efficient charging process, making their journeys even more convenient and enjoyable.
