Ferrari has recently unveiled the interior of its first-ever all-electric supercar, the Ferrari Luce, showcasing a unique approach to electric vehicle design. The collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, has resulted in a striking interior that sets the Luce apart from other EVs on the market.
The interior of the Ferrari Luce was carefully crafted with a focus on integrating tactile controls and digital interactions seamlessly. LoveFrom designer Mike Matas shared a video of the interior, emphasizing the deep collaboration across various design disciplines that shaped the cabin of the Luce. The goal was to create a thoughtful and restrained design, avoiding the trend of replacing physical controls with touchscreens.
Jony Ive, known for his criticism of overly touch-driven car interiors, played a significant role in shaping the design philosophy of the Luce. Instead of relying solely on touchscreens, the Luce features a blend of physical controls and digital displays. One standout feature is the instrument cluster, where digital speed graphics coexist with a physical needle, visible through a curved inset lens.
In terms of performance, the Ferrari Luce is a true hyper-EV, boasting a 122 kWh battery, four electric motors, and around 1,000 horsepower. With a targeted European-rated range of 330 miles, a blistering 0–60 mph time of under 2.5 seconds, and a curb weight of approximately 5,100 pounds, the Luce promises an exhilarating driving experience. To enhance the driving engagement, the Luce will even offer simulated gear shifts.
The development of Ferrari’s first electric vehicle has been years in the making, with the collaboration with Jony Ive and LoveFrom announced nearly five years ago. As part of Ferrari’s broader electrification strategy, the company aims to have electrified models account for the majority of its sales by the end of the decade. The Ferrari Luce signifies a new chapter in Ferrari’s history, showcasing an electric era that is distinctly Ferrari.
While more details about the Ferrari Luce are set to be revealed in May, the interior debut has already made it clear that Ferrari’s electric future will be unlike any other. The blend of cutting-edge design, performance, and driving engagement sets the Luce apart as a true electric supercar that stays true to Ferrari’s legacy of innovation and excellence.
