The BMW iX is making waves in the electric vehicle market with its latest upgrades. The 2026 model now boasts a larger 113 kilowatt-hour battery, providing an estimated range of up to 340 miles. Additionally, a new entry-level trim, the xDrive45, features a smaller 100 kWh battery that still offers a respectable range of 280-300 miles.
One of the key improvements in the new iX is the implementation of a silicon carbide inverter, which enhances energy transmission from the battery to the motors. This leads to improved efficiency and better heat management, resulting in fewer energy losses and increased driving range. The vehicle also features upgraded wheel bearings and headlights that consume less energy, contributing to an overall 10% increase in efficiency.
In terms of performance, the iX has received a power boost as well. The base xDrive45 model delivers 402 horsepower, while the xDrive60 and M70 trims provide 536 hp and 650 hp (with Boost Mode), respectively. These power upgrades, combined with the larger battery capacity, ensure a thrilling driving experience for iX owners.
Visually, the changes to the iX are subtle yet impactful. The xDrive60 trim now comes standard with the previously optional Sport Package, adding sportier accents to the exterior. New color options, such as Arctic Race Blue Metallic and Frozen Deep Gray, further enhance the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal.
In response to a slight decline in sales, BMW has introduced these updates to revitalize interest in the iX. With a more affordable entry-level variant and increased range on top trims, the company aims to regain momentum in the electric crossover market. The iX LCI is set to hit the market in the second quarter of the year, with pricing starting at $75,150 for the xDrive45, $88,500 for the xDrive60, and $111,500 for the M70.
Overall, the 2026 BMW iX represents a significant step forward in electric vehicle technology, offering improved performance, efficiency, and range. With these upgrades, BMW is setting the stage for a new era of electric driving excellence.
