Tesla has just released software update 2024.45.25.15, which includes updates for both Hardware 3 (HW3) and Hardware 4 (HW4) vehicles. This update brings Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised 12.6.1 for HW3 and FSD 13.2.4 for HW4, marking the first time that one software version update combines both FSD updates for different hardware versions.
FSD 12.6.1 for HW3 introduces several key features, including End-to-End Highway Navigation, which enhances autonomous navigation on highways for HW3 vehicles for the first time. It also improves City Streets Performance by reducing false slowdowns and enhancing obstacle avoidance. Drivers can now customize speed profiles on roads with speed limits of 50 mph (80 km/h) or higher, and lane changes are now smoother with earlier and more natural decisions. The redesigned controller offers smoother and more accurate vehicle tracking, and Autopilot can now adjust maximum speeds within the driver’s allowed limit.
It is important to note that FSD (Supervised) does not make the vehicle fully autonomous, and drivers must remain attentive and in control at all times while using it. Other updates in the 2024.45.25.15 software update include enhancements to data sharing, allowing drivers to opt-in to share audio data for emergency siren recognition. Camera visibility detection notifies drivers of poor camera visibility and stores images locally, automatically deleting them after two days unless Data Sharing is enabled.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has mentioned that the company will offer free FSD trials with each major update. With the release of FSD 12.6, it remains to be seen if existing HW3 owners will have the opportunity for another free trial. The integration of these new features and updates showcases Tesla’s commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology and improving the overall driving experience for Tesla owners.
