Tesla has recently introduced a new configuration of the Cybertruck, the Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive trim. This new model, however, is not yet available in the United States. Instead, Tesla has chosen to advertise the vehicle in Saudi Arabia, where deliveries have just commenced on April 10th.
The decision to launch this specific trim in Saudi Arabia first is an interesting one, especially considering that it was initially unveiled back in November 2019 as the most affordable option with a price tag of $39,990. Tesla’s focus on releasing the All-Wheel-Drive trims first, which seemed to be in higher demand, has now shifted towards introducing the Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive trim to the market.
The specifications of the new Tesla Cybertruck trim are as follows: it offers a range of 350 miles or 563 kilometers, with an acceleration of 6.6 seconds from 0-100 km/h and a top speed of 180 km/h or 111 mph. Unlike other trims, this model does not come with adjustable air suspension or a rear touchscreen. The price for this trim has not been listed yet.
While the Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive Cybertruck is currently only available in the Middle East, it is expected to launch in the United States later this year. Tesla had previously stated that this trim level would be introduced in the U.S. by late 2025. The decision to debut the Cybertruck in the Middle East first before bringing it to the U.S. might be related to regulatory processes, such as obtaining approval from the EPA.
Launching this more affordable version of the Cybertruck in the U.S. could potentially boost Tesla’s delivery figures in the years to come. Many consumers have been eagerly anticipating a more budget-friendly option for the Cybertruck, which could help drive up demand for the popular electric pickup. This move could be pivotal in expanding the Cybertruck’s market reach, especially in the U.S. where it has already established itself as the best-selling EV pickup.
