Exciting developments are underway as Land Rover continues testing its electric version of the iconic Range Rover luxury SUV. The electric vehicle, known as the Range Rover Electric, opened reservations in late 2023, with deliveries scheduled to begin next year, making it a probable 2026 model release in the U.S. In preparation for its launch, Land Rover is rigorously testing the Range Rover EV in extreme conditions to ensure it maintains the renowned off-road capabilities of its internal-combustion counterpart.

Land Rover has been conducting a comprehensive hot-weather testing program, subjecting prototypes to temperatures reaching as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 90% humidity. Additionally, the prototypes were tested in Dubai, where they successfully climbed a 300-foot sand dune five times, showcasing their performance capabilities under extreme conditions.

Furthermore, the Range Rover Electric underwent cold-weather testing in the Arctic Circle, where it was exposed to temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Engineers fine-tuned the chassis systems to ensure optimal performance on low-grip surfaces, utilizing a traction control system that manipulates the electric motors for enhanced control.
The Range Rover Electric is anticipated to leverage a modified version of the MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform used in current gasoline and plug-in hybrid Range Rover models. Production will take place at the iconic Solihull factory in the UK, continuing the legacy of crafting exceptional Land Rovers. The lineup is expected to expand with the introduction of an electric Range Rover Sport and an electric successor to the Range Rover Velar, along with three electric vehicles for Jaguar.
