IM Motors LS6: A Game-Changer in the World of EREVs
The IM Motors LS6 has recently undergone a mid-lifecycle refresh, introducing new extended-range variants that are now being sold alongside the existing EV versions. This move has significantly boosted the popularity of the LS6 among consumers, making it a standout choice in the competitive market of long-range plug-in hybrids.
One of the most attractive aspects of the new LS6 variants is their affordability. The cheapest extended-range LS6 model is priced at less than $30,000 in China, making it a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers. The LS6 EREV models come with two optional battery sizes – a 52-kilowatt hour pack or a 66 kWh pack – both of which are charged by a 153-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder range extender. This setup provides ample endurance in either configuration, with impressive range figures to match.
The LS6 EREV models are equipped with Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery cells, featuring a double chemistry that can switch between sodium ion and lithium ion depending on driving conditions. These batteries offer quick charging times, with the ability to replenish 180 miles of range in just 10 minutes using 4C ultra-fast charging technology.
Regardless of the battery size chosen, the LS6 EREV models are powered by a 308 hp electric motor driving the rear wheels, delivering a claimed acceleration time of 0 to 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds. The affordability of these models is another key selling point, with prices starting at 214,900 yuan ($29,920) for the small battery model and 239,900 yuan ($33,400) for the large battery model.
In addition to the EREV variants, the LS6 lineup also includes a base pure EV version with a 76 kWh battery and a 329-hp motor, offering a CLTC range of 404 miles (650 km) at a price of 209,200 yuan ($29,200). The top-of-the-line variant features all-wheel drive with a second motor powering the front axle, a combined 671 hp, and a larger 103-kWh battery that extends its range to 466 miles (750 km) with a blistering 0-62 time of just 3.48 seconds.
The LS6 stands out not only for its impressive performance and range but also for its exceptional maneuverability. The rear axle can steer up to 18 degrees, making it easy to navigate tight spaces. The car also features brake-by-wire technology and higher-spec models come with a 520-line lidar sensor for enhanced road-reading capabilities.
With over 10,000 pre-orders in just 30 minutes, the refreshed LS6 has already made a significant impact in the market. Its competitive pricing, exceptional range, and innovative features make it a strong contender in the electric vehicle segment. As the demand for long-range plug-in hybrids continues to grow, the IM Motors LS6 is setting a new standard for EREVs and reshaping the future of electric mobility.
