Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone giant, has made a bold move into the electric car industry, and it’s already making waves with its impressive safety and technology features. The company’s first electric sedan, the SU7, recently achieved a five-star safety rating in China’s C-NCAP crash test, outperforming all other cars evaluated in 2024.
The SU7, launched in March 2024, has been a best-seller for Xiaomi Auto, with 186,112 units sold so far. The demand for this model continues to outstrip supply, with an 11-month lead time for new orders. The C-NCAP test, conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, evaluates vehicle safety and performance in various categories, including occupant protection, pedestrian safety, and active safety systems.
The SU7 Max, an all-wheel-drive version of the sedan, also underwent the C-NCAP test and achieved an impressive five-star rating with a score of 93.5%. This score is significantly higher than the average for other cars tested in 2024, demonstrating the SU7 Max’s advanced safety features. The car comes equipped with a Lidar system from Hesai and Xiaomi’s Pilot Max driver assistance system, priced at 299,900 yuan.
In addition to its top-notch safety ratings, the SU7 Max excelled in the Active Safety category, scoring 95.25%. It also set records for automatic emergency braking and lighting effectiveness. Xiaomi is now gearing up to launch its second model, the YU7 SUV, further solidifying its position as a serious contender in the electric car market.
Despite being a newcomer to the industry, Xiaomi’s electric vehicles are proving to be a force to be reckoned with, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence on the road. With its focus on safety, technology, and performance, Xiaomi is set to make a significant impact in the evolving world of electric mobility.
