Chevrolet is gearing up to launch a new off-road-focused version of its Silverado EV called the Trail Boss this summer. To build excitement around this upcoming release, the company unveiled a one-off concept version of the Silverado ZR2 at The Mint 400 rally. This concept truck boasts 1,100 horsepower and a host of modifications designed to enhance its off-road capabilities.
The Silverado ZR2 Concept features a raised suspension, aggressive 37-inch off-road tires, and a range of other enhancements that make it look like a true off-road racing machine. One of the standout features of this concept is the addition of adaptive spool-valve dampers from Multimatic, which provide 13 inches of ground clearance. The truck is powered by a tri-motor powertrain that boosts its output to an impressive 1,100 hp.
Chevrolet has revealed that 98% of the parts used to create the ZR2 Concept are GM production parts, making it theoretically possible for enthusiasts to replicate this build on their own Silverado EV. The truck also boasts locking differentials to improve its off-road performance. While the ZR2 Concept is a high-performance model, the production Trail Boss variant will offer a more accessible off-road package.
The Trail Boss model will feature a lifted suspension, unique 18-inch wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires, and the signature red tow hooks integrated into the front bumper. Chevy will also offer over 40 unique options for the Trail Boss, allowing customers to customize their vehicle to suit their preferences. More details about these optional extras will be revealed closer to the official launch of the Trail Boss this summer.
Overall, Chevrolet’s new off-road-focused Silverado EV lineup is set to offer a range of options for customers looking to take their electric truck off the beaten path. With the ZR2 Concept showcasing the potential for high-performance off-road capabilities and the Trail Boss providing a more accessible off-road package, Chevy is aiming to cater to a diverse range of customers with its electric truck offerings.
