BMW is gearing up for the release of its first two Neue Klasse electric vehicles, showcasing camouflaged prototypes of the upcoming models at the annual general meeting. The highly anticipated iX3 electric SUV is set to make its debut in September at the IAA Mobility 2025 trade show in Munich, followed by the i3 sedan in 2026. These models offer a glimpse into the future design direction that BMW will adopt for its entire lineup.
The iX3 electric SUV features production front and rear lights, giving us a clear idea of its design. Resembling the BMW iX with its long, wagon-like rear end and large rear light clusters, the iX3 maintains a distinctive BMW aesthetic. The front of the car stays true to the concept, showcasing the iconic shark nose that harkens back to the original Neue Klasse design.
Both the iX3 SUV and the i3 sedan will be part of BMW’s new plant in Hungary and a factory in Munich, respectively. There are plans for a combustion version of the iX3, which may replace the current G45 X3 in the future. The new combustion 3 Series, built on an updated CLAR platform, will arrive before an X3 with Neue Klasse design. The i3 will come in sedan and wagon body styles, while the next 4 Series is rumored to be available only as an electric vehicle.
BMW aims to offer hot M variants of both the electric sedan and SUV, equipped with up to four electric motors for dynamic performance. The brand’s Neue Klasse line represents a transformation in how cars are made, with a focus on electrification and sustainable mobility. The upcoming models promise impressive range and cutting-edge technology to meet the demands of modern drivers.
While BMW has faced criticism for its recent design choices, the Neue Klasse models have been well-received for their innovative approach. As the automotive industry transitions towards electric mobility, BMW is leading the way with groundbreaking EVs that combine performance, style, and sustainability. The iX3 and i3 represent the next chapter in BMW’s evolution, setting a new standard for electric vehicles in the luxury market.
