Tesla is on the verge of launching its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software in Australia, with no regulatory obstacles standing in the way. Thom Drew, Tesla’s Country Director for Australia and New Zealand, confirmed that FSD (Supervised) has successfully completed the regulatory review process in both countries and is currently undergoing final validation before a public release.
In a recent comment on LinkedIn, Drew stated, “We have been working with local authorities across AU & NZ and there are no regulatory blockers for release. We are running through the final stages of validation prior to public release. Looking to start with HW4 on certain vehicles and then release in phases from there.” This news comes as Tesla Australia (@TeslaAUNZ) shared footage of FSD (Supervised) in action on the roads of Sydney, hinting at an imminent launch.
This development follows Tesla’s expansion of its Early Access program for FSD (Supervised) earlier this year, as the company aims to make its advanced driver assistance system more widely available beyond the U.S. market. FSD (Supervised) enables Tesla vehicles to autonomously navigate city streets, handle traffic lights, make turns, and more, all while under constant driver supervision. Meanwhile, Tesla is also testing an “Unsupervised” version of FSD through its Robotaxi pilot program in Austin, Texas, where rides are currently monitored by a Tesla Safety Monitor.
With validation nearing completion and no regulatory hurdles in sight, Australian Tesla owners may soon have the opportunity to experience the company’s most advanced autonomous driving software to date. Stay tuned for updates on the official launch of FSD (Supervised) in Australia.
