A Tesla Robotaxi validation vehicle has been spotted in Georgetown, Texas, located about 30 miles north of Austin. The sighting, shared by SawyerMerritt on X, marks yet another appearance of Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet well outside its current geofenced service area in Austin, suggesting broader testing and potential expansion plans are underway.
Just last week, Tesla expanded its Robotaxi geofence in Austin once again, extending its coverage deeper into the southern parts of the city. However, Georgetown lies far to the north and is not currently within the operational Robotaxi area. The vehicle’s presence in Georgetown raises the possibility that Tesla is either planning a significant northern expansion of its Austin pilot or preparing for a standalone Robotaxi deployment in the Georgetown area.
This isn’t the first time a Robotaxi has been spotted operating beyond the Austin boundary. Last month, another Tesla Robotaxi test vehicle was seen in Marble Falls, west of Austin and also well outside the geofenced zone. These sightings point to more aggressive real-world testing and validation by Tesla, potentially in anticipation of new regional launches.
According to a recent report, Tesla is actively eyeing new Robotaxi deployments in a range of cities, including Brooklyn, NY; Houston and Farmers Branch, TX; Tempe, AZ; Henderson, NV; Tampa, Clermont, and Miami, FL; and Palo Alto, CA. Georgetown’s proximity to Austin and its growing suburban population make it a logical next step if Tesla is looking to broaden its Robotaxi footprint in Texas.
As Tesla prepares to expand the Robotaxi service beyond its current boundaries in Austin, Texas, and the San Francisco Bay Area, more test sightings like this one will continue to emerge. The expansion of Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet signals the company’s commitment to revolutionizing transportation through autonomous vehicles, with plans for additional deployments in various cities across the United States. Stay tuned for further updates on Tesla’s Robotaxi testing and deployment efforts.
