Cadillac has made a significant improvement to the motorized charge door on their Lyriq electric vehicle. The latest late-2025 and 2026 models now feature an updated mechanism that ensures a smoother operation compared to the previous version. In the past, the charge door on the Lyriq opened with a jerky motion, which was not in line with the luxury standards expected from Cadillac.
The Cadillac Lyriq is the brand’s first mass-produced electric vehicle and has been well-received for its plush interior and impressive performance. The recent introduction of the Lyriq-V variant has further enhanced the lineup with exceptional power output. However, one of the drawbacks of the original Lyriq model was the less-than-ideal operation of the motorized charge door.
Cadillac has addressed this issue by refining the opening mechanism of the charge port door. The new mechanism offers a much smoother experience for users, eliminating the jerky motion that was previously present. While this improvement is certainly a step in the right direction, there is a trade-off in terms of speed. The updated charge door now takes longer to open and close, which may be a downside for some users.
According to Alex Doss, the lead development engineer for the Lyriq-V, all Lyriq models produced from the end of 2025 onwards come equipped with the updated opening mechanism. Unfortunately, existing Lyriq owners with the old mechanism will not be able to upgrade to the new version through a simple software update. If the charge door malfunctions and requires replacement under warranty, it is possible that the updated hardware will be installed at the dealership.
Overall, Cadillac’s efforts to enhance the motorized charge door on the Lyriq demonstrate their commitment to delivering a premium electric vehicle experience. While there may be some initial challenges with the transition to the new mechanism, the improved smoothness of operation is a welcome upgrade for Cadillac enthusiasts.
