Tesla’s Vice President of Sales, Service, and Delivery for North America, Troy Jones, has bid farewell to the company after an impressive 15-year tenure. Jones played a crucial role in overseeing Tesla’s growth in its largest market, guiding the company from a niche Silicon Valley startup to becoming the global leader in electric vehicles.
Joining Tesla in 2010, shortly after the launch of the original Roadster, Jones was instrumental in expanding Tesla’s sales network from a handful of showrooms to nearly 300 stores, service centers, and delivery centers across North America. Throughout his time at Tesla, Jones navigated through record deliveries, rapid factory openings, and unprecedented spikes in demand.
Jones’ departure comes amidst a series of high-profile exits at Tesla, following the recent removal of Omead Afshar, the former head of North American and European operations. These leadership changes coincide with a challenging period for Tesla’s North American business, as U.S. deliveries have softened in recent quarters despite retaining its top spot in Q2 with approximately 151,000 EVs sold. The Model Y, in particular, led the market in the first half of 2025 with 155,000 units sold.
The U.S. EV market faces additional challenges following the elimination of the $7,500 EV tax credit by the Trump administration, signaling a turbulent road ahead. With competition heating up, General Motors reported a significant 111% year-over-year surge in EV sales to 46,000 units in Q2, narrowing the gap with Tesla.
In Canada, Tesla’s momentum has slowed down following the expiration of the federal iZEV rebate program and the imposition of hefty automotive import tariffs earlier this year. Registrations in Canada saw a sharp 67% decline in the first half of the year due to higher prices and lost incentives.
As Tesla navigates through these executive changes and market dynamics, all eyes will be on how the company adapts under new leadership. It remains to be seen how Tesla will bounce back and continue to innovate in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
