Tesla Announces Expansion of Cabin Radar Support Across Model Lineup
Tesla has unveiled plans to extend the functionality of its cabin radar technology to a wider range of vehicle models. Initially introduced in recent Model Ys, the cabin radar update not only enhances seat occupancy sensing in the front row but also provides crucial information about passenger size during potential accidents.
In a recent announcement, Tesla confirmed that upcoming updates will activate the dormant in-cabin radar in other recent vehicle models, offering enhanced safety features across the board.
Child Presence Detection
In addition to front-row occupant sensing, Tesla will introduce support for rear-seat detection to prevent incidents of children being left unattended in vehicles. This move aims to address the alarming statistics of child heatstroke fatalities, as highlighted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The advanced radar system is equipped with various safety features, including dynamic airbag deployment based on passenger size classification, automatic safety adjustments for children, and real-time monitoring of vital signs like heart rate and breathing.
If a child is detected in the vehicle, the Tesla app will notify the owner and activate the HVAC system for their safety. In emergency situations, the vehicle can automatically contact emergency services and provide its precise location.
Supported Models
While the cabin radar feature is currently active in recent Model Ys, Tesla has confirmed its availability in other models such as the Model 3 and Cybertruck. Part numbers for the cabin radar components indicate compatibility with various Tesla vehicles, with rear-seat sensing expected to be rolled out later this year.
Owners of recent Model 3s and Cybertrucks can anticipate front-row sensing in the near future, with rear-row sensing set to follow suit. Tesla’s commitment to enhancing safety features across its vehicle lineup reflects a proactive approach to prioritizing passenger well-being.
Stay tuned for further updates on the rollout of cabin radar support in Tesla’s upcoming models, including the Refreshed Model S and Model X.
