The latest reports indicate that the updated Tesla Model Y is commencing production today at the Gigafactory Berlin facility in Germany. This news was first reported by the reputable German newspaper, Handelsblatt. While customers in Europe will soon have access to the facelifted crossover, American customers may have to wait a bit longer before they can get their hands on the revamped model.
Tesla’s European factory is solely dedicated to producing the Model Y, which maintained its position as the best-selling electric vehicle globally last year. Despite a slight dip in global delivery numbers for Tesla in 2024, the Model Y remains a crucial product for the company. The unveiling of the refreshed Model Y took place in China, a market where Tesla experienced an increase in sales. Customers in Australia and New Zealand can already place orders for the updated electric crossover, with deliveries expected to begin in May.
It is yet uncertain when the first units of the updated Model Y will be delivered in Europe. However, based on past trends with the refreshed Model 3, North America may be among the last markets to receive the updated Model Y.
Dubbed “Juniper,” the facelifted Tesla Model Y boasts a redesigned front and rear, along with a more refined interior. The addition of a new infotainment screen for rear passengers and a revised suspension system for enhanced comfort are notable features of the updated model. Interestingly, the gear selector stalk has been removed from the steering column, leaving only the blinker stalk—a departure from the design of the Cybertruck and refreshed Model 3.
In 2024, Tesla delivered a total of 1,789,226 vehicles globally, marking a slight decrease from the previous year. However, the company had experienced a significant 38% increase in deliveries in 2023 compared to 2022.
As production gets underway in Germany, Tesla enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of the updated Model Y in different markets worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated electric vehicle.
