BMW M recently unveiled images of a prototype for their upcoming electric M3 sports sedan. The photos, posted on the performance division’s official Instagram page, showcase a camouflaged sedan with distinctive wheel arches. This prototype is equipped with a four-motor layout, signaling BMW’s venture into performance electric vehicles.
M division boss Frank van Meel confirmed the development of the electric BMW M3 earlier this year, promising that it will surpass all expectations. The M3 will be part of BMW’s Neue Klasse family of next-generation EVs, featuring advancements like cylindrical battery cells and an 800-volt electrical architecture for improved charging speed and driving range.
The electric M3 may also include simulated gear shifts and artificial engine sounds synchronized with the driver’s actions, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. BMW plans to introduce performance models like the M3 later in the Neue Klasse lineup, with initial production set to begin in late 2025.
