BC Hydro Opens Largest EV Charging Station in Lake Country, BC
Traveling through the beautiful Okanagan region in British Columbia just got a whole lot easier for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. BC Hydro has recently unveiled its largest charging station yet in Lake Country, located along Pelmewash Highway. This new hub boasts an impressive 22 charging ports, providing drivers with a faster and more convenient way to power up during their journeys.
What sets this charging station apart is the inclusion of ultra-fast 350 kW chargers, making it BC Hydro’s first station to offer this cutting-edge technology. These chargers are capable of charging most EVs from 20% to 80% in under 10 minutes, significantly reducing wait times for drivers. While not all EVs can utilize the full 350 kW speed, every vehicle can safely connect and charge at its maximum capacity.
In addition to the high-speed chargers, the Lake Country location is also the first BC Hydro station to feature Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors. These connectors are designed to simplify the charging process and make it more accessible for both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers. The site also offers Level 2 chargers and 180 kW fast chargers for those who prefer alternative charging options.
For EV enthusiasts looking to explore the scenic landscapes of British Columbia, BC Hydro has updated its charging map on its EV app, making it easier to locate and save favorite charging stations. In addition to the Lake Country station, BC Hydro has recently opened several other charging sites, including Ashcroft, Lake Cowichan, Pemberton, Port Coquitlam – TransLink, and Vanderhoof.
Excitingly, there are more charging stations on the horizon, with sites in Colwood – Quarry Park, Prince George – CNC, South Surrey – TransLink, and Delta – Sports Development Complex set to open soon. These new additions will provide EV drivers in the Okanagan and beyond with even more options for efficient and stress-free travel.
With these upgrades and expansions, BC Hydro is paving the way for a more sustainable future by making electric vehicle travel more accessible and convenient for drivers. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor exploring the stunning landscapes of British Columbia, the province’s BC Hydro charging network is here to support your EV charging needs.
